Disclaimer: My little brother doesn't know how to focus a gosh-danged camera.

Did a quick shoot before I scavenged L.A. for screen-printing places. Does anyone know where I can find a screen-printer that can work with two yards of cloth at a time? I'm at a loss right now. I didn't anticipate how difficult it'd be to find one.

Let me talk about this dress for a second. It's this silky material & I swear I could literally sleep in it. In fact, I have slept in it. No lie, that was a considerably comfortable catnap. I wore this dress with nude patent loafers & an elephant pin I found on etsy. Again, I apologize for the out-of-focus photos. My little brother was listening to the Wu Tang Clan while taking these pictures, so he inherently had one hand over his groin & head-bobbed through the whole shoot.

This blog has been my baby for about three years now. I looked through my archives last night & it was sort of mind-boggling seeing myself in a metamorphosis. I suppose that was the whole purpose I started this blog: to document change.

For a good year after I started this blog, I remember feeling guilty had I not updated every two or three days. It became this sick ritual. Then I went through this really awful phase (after my personal life suffered through something incredibly drastic) where I severely neglected my blog. This lasted for a good few months until I woke up & realized that I needed to live. So I lived & I didn't have much time for blogging then either. So, there you have it. That's my lackluster excuse for not posting much for basically all of 2011. That said, I really want to thank everyone for sticking around, because without you, I would never have been able to experience some pretty bad-ass opportunities. Forgive me? c:

Like a cosmic ray that blinds a human race & pushes itself through the atmosphere of humanity, the creation of a word—a legendary word—has proven that it only takes one misunderstanding, bestowed upon by past generations, to make a fool out of us all.

Legend has it that our ancestors, long & far gone, created a word to express how they felt about the tiny illuminations they observed in the sky. “What are those?” They pondered. “They are all so beautiful.” Unanimously, they decided they would give a universal name to the lights in the heavens: Love. “Look at all the Love tonight.” “Isn’t Love beautiful?” Some were even so brave as to set out to find the meaning of Love, to no avail.

“I can see the reflection of Love in your eyes” is what our ancestors would say if they were in stars with each other. After lifetimes spent watching the sky, an empire of observers dissipated as quickly as they were born, tightly holding onto the truth behind the meaning of Love. Though, the word they fashioned thrived throughout the proceeding centuries, & the root of Love could never be uncovered because the graves were far too deep. They did not intend for Love to be mistaken as a belief or feeling, for Love was something that was tangible—something that could be observed. Love was not an idea. Love was not unreal. “When you touch me, I see Love” is what our ancestors would say if they were deeply in stars with each other.

Love became a mythical creature of our imagination, like a phoenix or a faun. The existent lie was more important to us than the nonexistent truth. Love comforted the modern mind like a warm hug on a cold day. We took the word & we wanted to fall into it. We wanted to fall in Love. “When you touch me, I see Love” is what we would say if we were deeply in stars with each other.

The truth about Love is that it was part of a fallen era that now happily floats in the darkness of the sky. Our ancestors fell in Love; our ancestors are Love, twinkling whenever “Love” is used incorrectly.

Currently paying tribute to the upcoming oversized-sweater-weather Los Angeles is about to experience. In case you couldn't tell by my face, I couldn't be more excited. For now, I'll just wear my oversized sweater over my chonies & bra because it's still ridiculously hot for some reason (come on, L.A. It's Fall--get with it, already).

Today I asked my friend, who is a marine, how being constantly surrounded by the chaos in Afghanistan made him feel, to which he responded:

It makes you hopeless & alone.

I began to cry, because I was no longer talking to him. I was talking to my deceased cousin.

My cousin, the family teddy bear, felt hopeless & alone. That broke me to pieces.

My cousin had a picture of me on his dogtag that he kept with him while he was serving in Afghanistan. That same picture of me was how we knew it was him who had died.

Right after his death, I remember thinking that he faked it somehow, because his body was never found, & I was convinced that he was alive somewhere in the world

Everything we know is a memory. Everything. How is it that laughing & crying & regretting are all connected?—no matter how good or bad or ugly, they’re all made up of the same thing. A memory.

There are days when I wake up wanting to write a letter to a distant memory telling it that I still remember. I remember its scent, its laugh, its beauty, its significance. I want to let it know that I still love it. I love all of it. I love all of them.

It might go something like this:

To all of my fading memories: I’ll mourn for you. You’ll be gone forever, but know that you once existed. The days have been long & the nights have been short. Luckily, this annual week-long holiday will give birth to an inspired, rested, & sane Melanie. Judging by the shot I took at the Rose Hills Cemetery (above) of me in a sea of yellow flowers, Spring is finally rolling around. So brilliant, so beautiful.

I look back on all of the times I've been to Yosemite, & not once have I gone during the Spring. I'm almost certain that if I go this time of year, I wouldn't go home. Speaking of which, I'm excited to be going to Yosemite twice during the Summer & I'll finally be able to climb Half-Dome.

The team over at Collection B sent this jacket my way. It's quite the statement piece - complete with star-studded details on each shoulder, & captures the essence of a lieutenant + band conductor lovechild. If Sergeant Peppers and Mozart had a baby, it would wear this very jacket.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to pay everything up front with my Forever 21 sales associate salary, so I've resorted to simple monthly payments. Sadface; the life & times of a working student. I can finally share what I've been keeping a secret from you all for so long!

I, Melanie Medina, am the newest part of Seventeen Magazine's Style Council for 2011.

I flew to New York back in November for a photoshoot with Seventeen and had a phenomenal time. The view from outside the Seventeen office was impeccable - it felt as if I was looking at a New York postcard. The girls I met were so kind. Instant click-age, if you ask me.

I went alone which was huge for me because I'm really attached to my family and IT WAS SO HARD BEING WITHOUT THEM. I only had a few hours to venture around the city - luckily, I got to enjoy Central Park and Times Square.

I have a plethora of surprises waiting to be shared with all of my lovely readers, but for now, please enjoy this video & PICK UP THE MARCH ISSUE OF SEVENTEEN.

I've been waiting to whip out this pair of leopard-print trousers I got last year at American Vintage's Black Friday sale post-alteration. My Mama tailored them by using a pair of slim trousers as a reference. They are the most comfortable pairs of pants I own. Plus, the icing on the cake is that they're high-waisted.

It's been a while, no?

Lately, I've been dealing with finishing up a long semester at school - what with finals, papers, deadlines, & such, erasing all negativity from my life, & working nonstop. It's been a busy, eye-opening month.

But I'm baaaaaaack.

Post-hiatus, I'm thinking of changing up my style a bit by creating more composed, classic looks. I'm still going to incorporate subtle prints & colors into my wardrobe + outfits. While sifting through each piece of clothing in my closet, I thought to myself, "When am I ever going to wear this again?" "Ew." "Out." "I don't even know what this is." I'm looking to slowly stray away from the youthful pieces in my closet - this applies mostly to jackets & sweaters I found at thrift stores ages ago. What was I thinking? Bwahaha.

Don't get me wrong, the pieces I've been eliminating are great in their own way, but they're not what I want to see myself wearing post-teenager.

On the contrary, Urban 1972 has been sending over a few items that I can be proud of owning. This coat kept me warm through the coldest, harshest Los Angeles days. Also, I love the color of these leggings. They even have tiny specs of glitter adding a nice hint of subtlety making them perfect for the Holidays.

Also, I recently bought this octopus pin & have been wearing it with everything.

Inspiration is lacking. I hope I can find my way out of this rut.

Say hello to my little friend who's been hiding underneath my bangs for several years. It's my forehead! I was playing with my hair & it somehow ended up as an East to West kind of braid. Thick, messy, & completely uninhibited; this braid has allowed my forehead to absorb precious Vitamin D after being trapped in the dark for most of my life.

I was contacted by Urban 1972 a couple of weeks ago & they sent over two beautiful garments; this pea-coat & these polka-dotted leggings. I'm excited to finally showcase them! Firstly, I just want to say that I finally got my license. Second time's a charm. See, the first time I took my behind-the-wheel test, I was a nervous wreck - my palms were sweaty, my heart was racing, etc. I would have passed (I got marked 4 off out of 15 points), BUT I ran a red light. I know.

This time around, I only missed 3 out of 15 points. I am officially a licensed driver.

First & foremost, guys: This lipstick is literally as vibrant as it is in these pictures - or rather, even more so. I've been on the prowl for the perfect shade of orange & was in luck when my Aunt gave me a stick of happy-go-lucky Chanel Nirvana (pictured). Also, I got another lipstick in a different shade of orange. Contrary to the crimson-colored lip action that's happenin' this Fall, I think I'll stick to my signature "in-your-face" shades.

I can't wait for the FYF Fest in L.A. this September! Definitely excited for Local Natives, Best Coast, The Growlers, Vetiver, & much much more. Plus, the food & clothing stands should be nothing less than delicous. Mmm, delicious clothes.

On Thursday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Forever 21 + Brian Lichtenberg launch party in L.A where I met other bloggers & even some of my own readers! The event had a killer set-up - white furniture, neon lights & both real & fake mannequins wearing B.L. attire.

The event was coordinated to promote Forever 21's first collection with the designer, Brian Lichtenberg.

Wore this ensemble to drool over shoes at Nordstrom & ended up having a really nice conversation with a spunky employee. You know what? I think all retail workers - well, all workers in general - should be humble, kind, & relatable (like the nice worker at Nordstrom) rather than uppity with a bad 'I'm better than you' attitude.

It's times like these where I think to myself, "Melanie, you need a job."

Seychelles + BC Footwear Showroom

Today, I was lucky enough to take part in a panel for Seychelles & BC Footwear! It truly was a blessed experience - I met a plethora of people in the biz + other bloggers .. even some of my own readers! Though, it certainly was strange for me to comprehend that I had actually met people who knew of my blog but didn't actually know me.

I was part of the panel for BC Footwear & was asked various questions by employees of the company. For instance, how much would I spend on a pair of boots, what are some things that I look for in a shoe, etc. I have to admit, I made the room laugh a few times. c;

For those of you who are curious, a 'showroom panel' is an occurrence where the company invites average people in to be asked questions in order to get a better understanding on what the customer is looking for.

I got to see all the new shoes for the upcoming seasons that haven't even hit stores yet. I swear, I was in shoe heaven. I wanted to take each & every pair home (& I know which one's I actually AM taking home!)

I was the youngest person in the room, so it was really nice being around people who have experience in the fashion industry. Everyone was very kind & welcoming. Plus, Elaine Pow is like, the cutest thing in the world!

Boyfriend & I are going to be heading over to the Rose Bowl Flea Market tomorrow! It'll be my first time ever going & I couldn't be more ecstatic.

Also, I'm going to beg my Dad for a legitimate camera - preferably the Nikon L110. I need one. It's a little less than $300 - pft, that's a snag. I can no longer use the camera on my phone.

Imagine trying to take an outfit shot in public with a cell-phone & hoping they come out like professional thousand-dollar camera pictures. I've been dreaming for too long.

SORRY FOR THE HAITUS. I've been busy having a blast with my cousin, Neeek, watching Girl, Interrupted multiple times, being repulsive, airbending, etc. You know. The usual.

I got an e-mail from a reader suggesting I dedicate a post to my Julian Casablancas concert experience. You know, the one I went to in November of '09 where I met Albert Hammond Jr. & Fabrizzio Moretti. Well, in retrospect, I hardly "met" them. I was just another fan bombarding them with pictures, watching them get really irritated, & eventually leaving with the feeling of self satisfaction - I can actually say that I met Albert & Fab! - all the while not giving a shit about how much they must hate their fans. Me included.

Regardless of the amazing backdrops, seeing my beautiful Jules, singing along to all of the songs, & being there at The Palace Theatre, most of the action occurred before the concert even started.

My boyfriend & I snagged great seats right behind the pit. As we were waiting, we noticed a bunch of pit people pointing at the balcony, looking as if they had seen the spirit of Christ himself - wide-eyed & in complete & utter disbelief. I looked up & all I saw was a bald guy who looked stoned. Though after several seconds of trying to figure out who the heck this guy was, my boyfriend & I hopped on the bandwagon when we realized that it was none other than Albert Hammond Jr sans curly locks of hair. Talk about incognito! My boyfriend & I ran upstairs & I ran into Fab Moretti. Swooooooon. As he was walking away, I morphed into Melanie the Creeper & grasped his hand. I had a secret dramatic moment when our hands fell apart - like two lovers in a movie not wanting to say goodbye, & the camera zooms in on their hands as they slowly slip away.

After dodging the crowd of Albert fans & trying not to collapse on the floor & have a violent seizure from all of the camera flashes, Boyfr & I finally reached our destination. Albert Hammond Jr. Land. The safe haven of all Strokes Fans - & personally, my favorite solo project artist of the whole group (sorry, Jules, Little Joy, & Nickel Eye). We took a ton of pictures - more than any of the other fans who only took one or two, when we had racked up at least five.
Though, despite the fact Albert was obviously irate, Melanie the Creeper held his finger in all of the photos & got really close to nestling the nape of his neck. WHY AM I SO CREEPY?

Nevertheless, the concert was amazing. The vibe at The Palace was almost like waiting for an Opera to begin in the 1930's.

Went to a show yesterday to see La Ghost (again) at a smelly house party in East L.A. chalk full of beer spilling, marijuana smoking, drunken, inconsiderate, 20-something year old bastards.

The music was great - as expected, but the environment was very uninviting - as expected.

Luckily, I didn't leave smelling like second-hand smoke & I didn't have to bath my clothes in perfume like last time.

I guess my jacket, which I love so dearly, wants to stay clean, too. Pun intended!

Now I'm off to a Greek Festival with boyfriend!

I wanted to take pictures a couple of days ago but one of my cats gave me this really itchy, bumpy allergic reaction that made my eyes puffy. One eye was smaller than the other. Gross, I know. So I've been pulling a Kanye by wearing sunglasses indoors.

This polka-dot jacket was originally a button-up, but it looked way better wearing it as outerwear. Having this mindset made it less awkward wearing overlapping button-ups. Polka-dots & mushrooms.

Summer's here & I'm not looking forward to gettin' all hot & bothered. Less is more?

The team over at Lookbook sent me this jacket from Collection B's fall line. This particular piece is made from soft, buttery leather & definitely kept me warm on an oddly chilly day here in L.A.
Speaking of which, what in the name of Julian Casablancas is an overcast day doing in May? I don't know about you, but I'm going to tell Mother Nature to leave those grey days in April. Am I right?

Last night, I went to a show with my boyfriend to watch a friend's band. The first time I heard them was in my boyfriend's car - I seriously thought they were a surf band from the 60's. Before they played, I had a very embarrassing conversation with the guitarist.

Although the venue reeked of cigs & my clothes are now being drenched in perfume, the music was definitely worth all of the second-hand smoke.

I don't mean to whine but MY EYES ARE HURTIN' LIKE CRAZY. THANKS A LOT YOU CIG-SMOKING [censor]S.

Across the Indian Wilderness

Spent yesterday trying to watch Daria episodes on Youtube but grew irritated when the second part of every episode was blocked because of copyright issues. I guess this is just Daria's way of letting me know that I need to buy her five season disc set.

Daria was my hero ever since I was a kid. I would watch it with my older brother & we would say that we're Trent & Jane. In all honesty, they're the most badass brother/sister duo.

It was great growing up in the 90's - minus the mesh fishnets & ugly, thick, water-floaty sandals.

Now onto the outfit. I got this Indian sweater about two years ago at the Wasteland in Santa Monica. Story time! My friends & I took a drive to Santa Monica, & if you know where I live, then you know that it's kind of a hassle getting over there. It's about a 30 minute drive without traffic. Anyway, we walked into the Wasteland & this sweater was the first thing that I saw. It's almost like the Indian was looking into my soul saying "Buy me, buy me" in his little Indian chant. The problem was that I didn't have any money. That night, I dreamt about that sweater. No joke. So the next day, right after school, I told my Mama to drive me over there so I could get my Indian sweater .. & here he is.

These oxfords were the first oxfords I ever bought. I got them on eBay about two years ago ('round the same time I got the sweater - maybe a little bit before) & was immediately captivated by the lovely pattern on the sides. The day after they showed up on my doorstep, I walked around school feelin' snazzy because I was one of the only people with a sweet pair of oxfords. Yeah, I said it. og og og og og

Before my food coma catches up with me, I want to iterate how much I was crying while watching Animal Cops on the Discovery Channel. After seeing a helpless pitbull who was hogtied & thrown into a trashcan, I allowed my dog (who's half pitbull, half labrador) to come inside & I gave him a big ol' Melanie hug. I fed him some sliced turkey (what a treat!) & we high-fived.

It's heartbreaking to see how people have the potential to be so evil.

While my boyfriend was taking pictures of me, two chunti guys drove by in their convertible once, but went around the block again just to yell, "HEY! I knew it was Michael Jackson," to me. Rudely flattering.
Also, my boyfriend thought I looked like a mariachi.

Much like my other posts, my boyfriend is the mastermind behind most of my photos. He willingly sacrifices longer power naps just to take pictures of me & listen to me complain about not liking my face in a photo, the lighting not being quite right, blahblahblah. I don't intend on being selfish, I swear! It's just persistently difficult and endlessly frustrating when you only have a camera phone sans tripod (yeah, all of my pictures are taken with my phone), self-timer, & something to balance my phone on - i.e. stool, barbeque grill; you name it.

Sometimes it's nice to have a strong + handsome man to help you out.

Also, Zoe of Haiku Ambulance is so sweet, so kind-hearted, so chic, & to put it bluntly, she's one of my favourites. Just sayin'. (heart)

I've been wearing this outfit for the past three days in hopes of squeezing in a good photoshoot into my unexpectedly busy weekend. Not joking.

These shots are from earlier today before heading over to my Grandma's house. For the sake of rushing, I had no time to care about the lighting in the photos. My mistake because these shots don't do this polka-dot shirt's delicious creme color any justice. I got at it my newest favorite vintage store. These trousers are from the I Heart Ronson line at JCP. I got them for a whopping $4, which shows that you can find thrift store prices at places other than thrift stores.

I die for these shoes. They're so perfectly preppy. They have a cute little buckle with adorable fringe. Ah! I hate cute things, but these cuties are so cute! Also, I scored this cute bow at my third favorite thrift store, where I splurged like a basketball store's wife would at South Pole.

My Urban Outfitters interview on Thursday went surprisingly well. I guess surprisingly isn't the right word, because I do very well under pressure. I think my clammy hands are my good luck charm.

On Saturday, I went to the Arts Institute in OC for their annual fashion show, but was scared away later on in the evening by hideous music & eventually missed what I had initially went there for. Imagine a Lady Gaga wanna-be dancing on stage like she was having a seizure, & a rapper - if you could even call him that - who's rhymes were like 9/11. Sorry if that's too ignorant of a comment, but I don't want to say that he sucked balls.

I saw Broken Social Scene at Amoeba yesterday. To put it bluntly, they were balls-out, "holy shit they sound amazing" amazing. Kevin's screams were spot on. It's rare to find a lead singer who can scream perfectly into a microphone & not leave you bleeding from one ear. Brendan was such a character. His jump-kicks left me weak in the knees. Also, Danny Masterson was in the crowd, which was the icing on the cake when it comes to a rad show.

Let me tell you something about myself. I'm the kind of person who is capable of waiting all sorts of hours just to enjoy good music. Rain or shine, happy or sad, free show or not, good music remains good music.

On to the outfit, I swear this jacket makes me feel like the female soldier in a South American Geurilla war. I wouldn't actually be fighting, though. I'm not really sure what to call these shoes. I guess I'll stick to the name "perforated western-esque ankle booties."

On another note, I've been so anxious lately. Maybe it's because I have a job interview with Urban Outfitters on tomorrow? Yeah, I think that's why.

Went job-hunting on Saturday at Olde Town Pasadena with my cousin & friend. Somethin' pretty rad happened. What time is it? STORY TIME.

The three of us bussed it to Olde Town from my cousin's house on a nice Spring Friday, holdin' hands & frolicking from bus to bus. Once we reached our destination, the mission had begun. Time to be an adult, Melanie - you need to look for a job. I applied to H&M & was able to squeeze in a short interview with the manager. Urban Outfitters was next - I practically wrote an essay on my application & got to leave a good impression on the manager. My next target was Forever 21, but having realized that I left my phone in the store after we had left, I'm assuming that my application (that mentioned I was a responsible person, pfft) ended up in the trash. Our last stop was American Apparel. As soon as I walked in .. well, read for yourself:

Employee: You look very well put-together!
Me: Thank you! You, too! (walks over to the counter to ask for an application)
Same Employee: Are you looking for a job here?
Me: Yeah, I was just about to get an application!
Employee: Well, my name is bleep & I'm the manager. I was wondering if I could take a few pictures of you?
Me: Oh, sure! (He took an outfit shot + a head shot)
Manager: Yeah, we really need employees who understand the aesthetics of fashion ... let me give you my information & you can send me your resume!
Me: That would be great!

Throughout the conversation, we engaged in nice small talk. He was a really cool dood. No joke.

Originally, I hadn't planned on mentioning this experience unless I actually got the job, but I couldn't help myself! I'm excited! I really hope I get the job - or at least one of the jobs I applied for. Wish me luck!

P.s. I'm so sorry for the lack of posting these past few days. My Spring Break was very very eventful.

Recently thought about beginning a new personal trend of posting every two days instead of three. Who knows, maybe someday I'll be posting my outfits back to back, like every day. Something to ponder.. c;

Went on a date with the boyfriend to watch The Runaways earlier today. Because Kristen Stewart's acting remains awkward & unappealing, Dakota Fanning totally stole the show - not to mention she had some killer outfits that totally inspired me to take my wardrobe with me on a vacation to the 70's. The Runaways was definitely worth the watch in my opinion.

I've been meaning to look up local Estate Sales now that I'm on my jolly way to getting my license. From prior knowledge & reliable sources, Fullerton seems like a worthy opponent to tackle on some serious vintage pieces. The best thing about Estate Sales, or so I've heard, is that everything is reasonably priced - from 1940's cameras to vintage Louis Vuitton coats.

Please excuse the poor lighting. The contrast is so stupid-looking that the ruffles on my shirt are nonexistent! The sky was gray, the weather was gloomy, & the lighting sucked bawlz. Speaking of which, my outfit fought the war against the weather, but the weather won.

Took a bike ride to my favourite thrift store yesterday & thrifted this sweet Versace belt - complete with the protruding lion head. I feel like a game hunter, but intstead of hanging dead animal heads on my wall, I stick them on my belt. It was a tad too big, so I poked some extra holes into it when I noticed Mr. G Versace's signature on the inside. Score!

The creator of this shirt probably consumed a bit too much LSD. Personally, I've never been on any hallucinogen - or drug for that matter - but I like to think that this shirt has been stared at for hours by people who have.

I recently purchased similar boots to these babies (my Modcloth knock-offs), but instead of red, they're off-white & they have the cutest cut-out pattern. I can't wait 'till they arrive on my doorstep.

Nature of the Experiment

Today I ventured away from my usual high-waisted shorts + button-up combination to wear my new "lumberjack" sweater I thrifted from my favorite store. I've been wearing this sweater with everything & in every way possible - even in 80 degree weather. Plaid is such a timeless pattern that creates a casual outtake on an otherwise classy outfit.

I wore this to the DMV & although the lines were endless, I was pleased because I passed my permit test! I'm happy even though this is something I should have done while I was still in high school.

High-waisted shorts + a button-up has been my uniform ever since the sun started becoming my best friend. It's likely that this will continue to be my staple combination well throughout Summer.

Just want to announce that the interview I did last week with Pepper & Chips is finally up! Go look! Go go go go go!

I'll be listening to piano concertos in the meantime.

I wore some variation of this outfit to my cousin's dance performance yesterday. She's a natural. Speaking of which, I think incorporating body-con dance-inspired pieces to an outfit is so chic. I have a leotard that I have yet to wear.

Sun in my Eyes

For preferential reasons, I've decided not to attend the Coachella Music Festival. I've come to my senses. Although I would love to see all of my favorite artists (Oh, Julian! Oh, King Khan! Oh, etc!), it's just too much of a hassle to take a two-hour drive to Indio in the blazin' hot sun & stay there for three days.

I'd rather spend that $300 on a new camera (my old one was stomped on by my little brother with my permission) or maybe on a thrifting spree.

Speaking of thrift stores, I found the greatest one about fifteen minutes away from my house. Seriously. It's my new favourite. Time to take a nice bike ride tomorrow!

Some people were curious as to what ethnicity I am. I answered this question a few posts back, but I don't mind answering again! :)
My father's relatives are Mexican, but my Dad looks one-hundred percent Caucasian. He has red hair & freckles. Yeah. I know.
My mother's relatives are Mayan, Spaniard, & Honduran, but she was born in El Salvador.

Also, I'd like everyone to know that I actually do wear these outfits out - whether I'm going to L.A. or to school. Just sayin'. :)

Don't Get Cute

I watched Avatar the other day & all I have to say is that I'd be surprised if that film wasn't number one at the box office. Despite the fact that my hands were sweaty throughout the whole movie, it's probably one of my favourite films of all time - maybe it's because I'm into all that fantastical, mythical, magical mumbo-jumbo.
Nevertheless, Avatar is definitely up there aside Pretty in Pink, The Devil Wears Prada, White Oleander, Pan's Labyrinth, & Amelie.

These past few days have been chalk full of thrifting for 70's-print button-ups & high-waisted shorts. I'm completely overstocked for Spring & Summer. HIGH FIVE!

While thrfiting, I found this absolutely beautiful piece of art: this jacket. The architecture is amazing & the fabric is so rich. It has become the most sixties statement piece in my wardrobe. I'm not one to pick favorite items of clothing, but if I were, this jacket would take the cake. Cough.

I'm so glad to see the sun is finally out without its intrusive, windy counterpart. I avoided the outside at all costs these past couple of days because of my unintentionally stupid outfit choices; dressing according to the weather is not my forte.

Today is such a great day to just bask in all of the sun's glory, listen to some Sebastien Grainger, & take a bike ride to downtown Downey to do a little thrifting.

After having my much needed rest, I can finally say that I've taken a 3 hour nap on my boyfriend's brother's bedroom floor. Just going to check that off my to-do list.

It was actually really embarrassing.

Yesterday, I got my red ankle western shoes in the mail & almost died. I can't wait to wear them. They're so vibrant!

Also, I got this bag at an antique store a few months back & I've been using it as a schoolbag. It was up until Sunday night when my brother was looking through it & saw that it was vintage Coach. I was like, "I look through that bag every day! How the @#$% did I not notice?"

The art gallery I went to in Uptown Whittier was pretty gnarly. My boyfriend had one piece up, & as beautifully crafted as that piece is, it still scares the bejeeberz out of me. I had a great time with my favorite people & even got to see some old high school friends. Went to sleep at 3 a.m.

My mini-birthday party was on Sunday. I'm still recovering from staying up until 3 a.m. (again. & on a school night!) & waking up five hours later.

As you can already tell, I've been catching up on some much needed sleep since then, which is why I haven't been posting anything up lately. SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY overload explode

I wish I wish I wish with all my heart that I could attend this year's New York Fashion Week. Since I'm a Chictopia member (though I haven't updated in well over a year), I get a discount on a ticket. Even if by some miracle, I was able to go, I'd have to purchase a plane ticket to New York. Unfortunately, I'm running low on cash. Maybe next year. :(

I'm turning 18 in two weeks. I negotiated a deal with my Dad that instead of having an 18th birthday party, he'll buy my Coachella ticket. I thought it was a fair trade!

I recently snagged the most beautiful fur collar & I've been wearing it with everything. Well, everything is an understatement.
Speaking of fur, I felt so lucky to have found such a jewel of a coat. It makes me feel so Edie-like. I'll definitely be wearing this to next year's NYFW. I'm that determined to go.

I have a mini project that's in the works right now. I have a beige jacket that I'm thinking of - well, it's a secret for now. :)

Today was my two year anniversary with boyfriend. We spent the day together taking legitimate polaroid pictures with a legitimate polaroid camera, eating, laughing, & having the best oxytocin party in town.

My latest attempts at becoming a legend (to myself) hath led me to do my eye make-up like I've never seen anyone do it before. My usual routine is to swipe some liquid eyeliner in the "cat-eye" formation - but now I'm adding an extra spoke. At first, it was completely accidental. After a few seconds of cursing, I figured, "Hey, it's my new thing." So now it's my new thing. Double-spoked cat-eye make-up.

On the prowl for a fur collar, a pair of mustard & floral trousers, & jackets with a very specific cut similar to the one I wore today - which I'm completely & utterly in love with.

Exhaustion is taking a toll on me. Last night I went to the Grand Opening of the Forever 21 at the Cerritos mall. My boyfriend & I waited in line since three in the morning lying on the pavement in the dead, cold night. It wasn't a good experience. At all.

I'm still pondering what drove me to actually feel the need to attend the event when I, myself, don't avidly shop at Forever 21. Maybe it was the free gift cards (ranging from $10 - $210).

With my luck, my gift card only had a measly $10 in it .. but it's something!
In the end, I left the store empty-handed.

I don't mean to claim the use of accessories as my own, but I wear this feather pin with everything! I feel it's my trademark - my own signature accessory.
